Whatzit blooming this month in Central Florida |
|
We had a hard freeze this month that burned a lot of tender and blooming plants, but one thing nice about this area ... you can almost always find something blooming in the garden. |

Camellia japonicas bloom January through March. They are sub-tropical, upright growing shrubs that are easy to grow and do well in our climate if planted properly ... not too deep, acid soil, dappled or semi-shade and mulched. |

Louis Philippe is a China and is sometimes referred to as the Florida Rose or Cracker Rose because of its plantings around old home sites. The flowers grow in clusters with a magenta red color and a lighter pink center. It is slightly fragrant, a constant bloomer, and can be used as a hedge or large specimen plant. A Texas statesman, Lorenzo de Zavala, collected this rose during his 1834 stint as Minister to France and planted it at his home in Lynchburg. |
